Accessibility statement for wwww.cpics.org.uk

This accessibility statement applies to our website, www.cpics.org.uk.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content)

Some documents on our website, including some within our board papers section, have diagrams and charts without a text alternative, which means people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 AA Success Criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

Success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships)

Some documents on our website, including some within our board papers section, are not properly tagged and/or do not correctly identify elements correctly, which makes it more difficult for people using screen readers to understand the information. Some documents feature complex tables with cells that are merged or frozen, or that include blank rows. This makes these documents hard to read for people using a screen reader because it’s difficult to determine the right reading order. These issues mean these documents do not currently meet WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships).

We are aware that a document titled 'End of Life Medication Chart', which is hosted on the health & care professionals' section of our website, is not fully accessible. This is because the document uses a small font size, and because it has merged cells. Merged cells do not meet WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion 1.3.1 (information and relationships).

Due to the clinical nature of this document, and considering that it is widely in use across our health system, we are unable to correct the accessibility issues in this particular file. We would politely request that anyone who requires this document in an accessible format writes to cpicb.comms@nhs.net to request it in such a format.

WCAG 2.1 AA Success Criterion 2.4.4 (link purpose (in context))

Some documents on our website, including some within our board papers section, feature links without descriptive linked text. This means that people using screen readers do not have the information they need to understand what the link is referring to. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion 2.4.4 (link purpose (in context)).

WCAG 2.1 AA Success Criterion 1.4.3 (contrast (minimum))

Some documents on our website, including some within our board papers section, are not fully accessible because they feature images, graphics or text placed against a coloured box with a low contrast ratio. This makes it difficult for people with a vision impairment to read these sections of our documents. This does not meet WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion 1.4.3 (contrast (minimum)).

Where we have full control over documents that do not currently meet the WCAG 2.1 AA standard, we are working to correct the issues as soon as possible.

Where the documents in question are either fully or partially under the control of a third party, for example where a partner organisation has submitted it to NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough or where the document must meet a template that has been set nationally, we are working with the third parties to understand when fully accessible versions of these documents will be available.

Disproportionate burden

This section of the accessibility statement does not apply to our website.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Online maps and mapping services

The accessibility regulations do not require us to make online maps and mapping services accessible, as long as essential information is provided in an accessible digital manner for maps intended for navigational use. The map hosted within our ‘contact us’ page is exempt under this clause. The address of our office can be found within the ‘contact us’ page, outside of the remit of the map.

Third-party content

We host some third-party PDFs, Word documents and other files on our website. We also feature a third-party Google Translate plug-in to support people who would prefer to read our website in a language other than English. This is third-party content which we neither funded, nor developed, nor is it under our control. This content is therefore exempt from the accessibility regulations.
