High Heritage update

High Heritage’s unique experience makes us a trusted thought leader and a voice to speak about issues affecting people in our community.

We like to give young people in our community the opportunity to share and voice their opinions about issues. They also know that when we come together, we can make a difference for the future.

High Heritage’s objective is to empower young people to thrive in the community with their heads held high.

We do this by different activities with the objective:

  • To build confidence in children and young people
  • To engage in the mindset of 'learning and growing' in our young people
  • To organise different programs and events to develop young people's wellbeing skills, capacities, and capabilities
  • To improve the conditions of young people by providing fun, recreational and leisure time activities
  • To equip and empower young people for the future
  • To improve young people's employability potential for the future
  • To enable young people to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.

Our Project, Bridging The Technology & Wealth Gap (BTTWG) was an idea the young people came up with. They noticed the difference in life chances of children and young people from wealthy backgrounds and they concluded ‘This is not fair’. So the question arose, what can we (as the High Heritage community) do to reduce this pattern.

We could say ‘Give all the families with technology problems money to solve this problem’, but there is no limitless finance that can permanently solve the problem. However, there is infinite wisdom that can be shared to all to improve their lives. We believe that when wealthy people share their wisdom, more families, children and young people can learn strategies to make changes in their own lives.

According to Margaret Fuller “If you have knowledge, let others light their candles at it.”

What we do in our sessions, is for those who have access to information (and are willing to share) to come speak. They deliver a presentation to the children and young people.

This BTTWG project enabled us to provide the technology equipment needed by some of the young people to join the on-line zoom sessions and workshops. To ensure young people were not missing out on information that can shape their future.

The topics we dealt with included technology and production training, including a workshop at the Young Technicians Academy in Peterborough; etiquette; IT skills; writers’ club; and the question of who is “an entrepreneur”.

The benefits we have seen among the children and young people so far include:

  • Team building skills
  • Learned new skills
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Reduced inferiority complex experienced by some young people because they don’t have this IT equipment.
  • Increased confidence and resilience
  • Enhanced young people digital learning and education
  • Improved leadership communication skills

And The story continues……
