A local GP and Practice Manager from Mereside Medical Practices, which includes Staploe Medical Centre in Soham, Cathedral Medical Centre in Ely and Haddenham Surgery, have been shortlisted in the prestigious 2024 General Practice Awards.
Celebrating innovation, dedication, and outstanding teamwork in primary care, Mereside Medical’s Dr Elizabeth Turner has been nominated for GP of the Year Award, whilst Group Practice Operations Manager, Demet Jackson, is shortlisted for Practice Manager of the Year Award.

The General Practice Awards are a prestigious national celebration for those working in primary care and general practice in the UK. The awards, which will be held in London on Friday, 6 December 2024, honour the work of brilliant individuals and teams who are striving to develop innovative projects and ultimately improve care for their patients and communities.

Dr Richard Brixey, Managing Partner, Mereside Medical Practices said “It’s fantastic to see Dr Turner and Demet be recognised for their kindness and commitment to providing the very best patient care. They are invaluable members of our team who continue to go above and beyond to improve patient care and the services we provide locally. They are already winners in our eyes!”

Dr Elizabeth Turner has been a GP at Mereside Medical Group since 2017. A natural leader, Dr Turner has been nominated for her boundless energy and commitment in spearheading wide range of initiatives to enhance patient care and experiences, improve staff morale and ensure inclusive healthcare is available for all.

Demet Jackson joined the practice in 2022 and is Group Practice Operations Manager. She has been recognised in her nomination for her infectious positive attitude, her commitment to staff and patient welfare, being the driving force behind improving online access and implementing targeted health campaigns such as the recent Florence Programme for improving blood pressure monitoring.

Dr Elizabeth Turner commented “I fell in love with primary care as a medical student and when I moved to Mereside Medical found a place that I could feel confident and safe in my practice. Since becoming a partner four years ago I have been encouraged to grow as a leader with the support of the partnership and the wider team. I feel so lucky and grateful to be able to share my passion and enthusiasm with my colleagues, trainees, students and patients.”

The awards will take place on Friday 6 December 2024, more information on the awards can be found on the award website.
