Local NHS shortlisted
Four healthcare projects led by Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS) partners have been shortlisted for awards at this year’s national NHS Parliamentary Awards.
The four nominations, put forward by East of England MPs, are:
- Fenland Dementia Services in the category of Excellence in Healthcare.
- ‘Ask me how I am’ self-harm project in the category of Excellence in Mental Health.
- Thistlemoor Medical Centre’s project to support people who use A&E most frequently in the category of Health Equalities.
- Lynn Rodrigues, ICB infection prevention control lead for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The NHS Parliamentary Awards were created in 2018 to celebrate and recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector. In the first stage of the awards, MPs nominate healthcare teams and individuals in their local area to highlight their exceptional commitment and achievements working in and with the NHS.
Louis Kamfer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICB said: “We are blown away and delighted we have been nominated for four different NHS Parliamentary Awards this year. These nominations show the incredible work carried out as a system working together to help improve the lives of local people. All nominations are worthy winners, and we wish them the best of luck at the ceremony in October.”
Dr Neil Modha, GP at Thistlemoor Medical Centre, nominated in the Health Equalities Award, said: “This is tremendous news and we are delighted to win the regional award in relation to improving health inequalities and look forward to being a finalist in the national awards. We hope projects like this shine a light on the importance of listening to people and supporting them in ways that make a true difference for them. Our GP trainees learnt a lot about the wider determinants of health and how these issues affect how people present to NHS services. We are grateful to our wider system partners in the council and voluntary sector as this programme could not have happened without their commitment and expertise."
Amber O’Berg, Integrated Neighbourhood Programme Manager, lead for the Fenland Dementia Services nomination: “I am beyond proud the Fenland Dementia work has been recognised as the regional winner for Excellence in Healthcare. It highlights the outstanding work undertaken to support people affected by dementia in our local area. This project is a true example of integrated neighbourhood working at its best, with multiple organisations, community members and wider stakeholders involved to deliver sustainable changes. Working in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society throughout this project has been invaluable with a particular mention to the brilliant work of Wendy Dunn who has led the way for transformative changes locally, it’s been a pleasure working in collaboration. We are all so excited to see what else can be achieved through this work, building on the amazing work to date.”
The four nominations going forward to the final round of the awards is a particular achievement this year, with 318 MPs across England putting forward 918 nominations – a far greater number than in any previous year. Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICS is grateful to the local MPs for their nominations which recognise the contribution to Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
A panel of national judges – made up of notable figures across the healthcare sector – will now come together to select the winners of this year’s awards. The nominations will now go head-to-head with other winners from across the country for a national award, presented at a special ceremony in Westminster, London on the Monday 14 October.
